<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing and producing N-substituted maleimides. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention provides the method for producing and synthesizing an N-substituted maleimides in an organic solvent that is azeotropic with water, and in the presence of a supported catalyst where an organic phosphonic acid having a melting point higher than 150°C and insoluble with the N-substituted maleimide is carried on a solid carrier, a primary amine and maleic anhydride are administered to carried out the cyclodehydration at 100 to 140°C.
