PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device capable of achieving high efficiency and long service life, and to provide a solution containing an organic EL material which is used to form a light-emitting layer of the organic EL device. SOLUTION: The organic EL device 10 includes a positive electrode 12, a negative electrode 14 and an organic thin film layer 13 provided between the positive electrode 12 and the negative electrode 14, wherein the organic thin film layer 13 includes a light-emitting layer 16 including at least a first host, a second host and a dopant indicating light emission. The second host is any one of compounds represented by formula (1). The compound having hole transfer performance and represented by the formula (1) is used as the second host, so that holes can be easily injected into the light-emitting layer 16 and the service life of the organic EL element 10 can be prolonged.
