<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoelectric generator of an elevator allowing realizing of saving energy by utilizing waste heat by a simple and small-scaled constitution by directly converting waste heat generated by regenerative resistance, an inverter and a converter, etc. into power by thermoelectric generation utilizing a Seebeck effect. <P>SOLUTION: In this elevator, a three-phase AC power source 1 is converted into a DC power source by the converter 2 and a smoothing capacitor 3, and the DC power source is converted into a desired frequency by the inverter 4 and is supplied to a hoisting machine motor 5, at a power running operation time. At a regenerative operation time, regenerative power generated by the hoisting machine motor 5 is returned to the smoothing capacitor 3 via the inverter 4, and the regenerative power is converted into heat by the regenerative resistance 6 and is consumed. The elevator is provided with the thermoelectric generator 11 provided in the regenerative resistance 6 to convert the heat generated from the regenerative resistance 6 into power by utilizing the Seebeck effect.
