PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an assembly structure of an expansion link as well as a release lever so as to suppress bad influence of thermal expansion of an outer case, wear of a movable shaft, or the like of a thermal type overload relay on operating characteristics. SOLUTION: The thermal type overload relay comprises a main bimetal 2, a shifter 3, a release lever 5 following displacement of the shifter 3, an output contact switching mechanism 6 linked with the release lever through a reverse spring 7, an adjustment dial 11 of a setting current, and an expansion link 12 linking between a cam part 11a of the adjustment dial and the release lever 5, in which the expansion link has its main shaft 12d pivotally supported by a main shaft holder 1b of the outer case 1 and its movable shaft part 12e linked with the release lever 5. The expansion link 12 is set along a face nearly parallel with a cam shaft of the adjustment dial, and that, the movable shaft part 12e is arranged in direct contact with the cam part 11a of the adjustment dial 11 as a cam follower.
