A joint gap eliminator comprises a substantially planar gap covering strip (3) secured to formwork (2) at one side of a joint of settable material (8). The covering strip (3) extends laterally across the joint so as to be supported at the other side of the joint in a manner which allows relative movement between the other side of the joint and the covering strip (3).
