Said separator (1) comprises a gas purification chamber (11), inside which a rotatably mounted centrifugal rotor (2) is arranged, and a rotary drive for the centrifugal rotor (2). Said rotary drive is disposed in a drive chamber (12) of the separator (1), can be operated using pressurized lubrication oil of the internal combustion engine (7), and is connected to the centrifugal rotor (2) by means of a shaft (3) extending from the drive chamber (12) into the gas purification chamber (11), from which the drive chamber (12) is separated. The rotary drive is formed by at least one thrust nozzle (38.1, 38.2) which is connected to the shaft (3) and to which the pressurized lubrication oil of the internal combustion engine (7) can be fed. At least one part (45) of a base (4) that forms the separation between the gas purification chamber (11) and the drive chamber (12) extends into the drive chamber (12), said part (45) of the base (4) being fitted with a seat (46.2) for a bearing (33.2) of the shaft (3). The bearing (33.2) is located at a distance from the centrifugal rotor (2).
