摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of suppressing the deterioration in picture quality and generating encoded data with a short bit length through small-scale hardware. <P>SOLUTION: An LCD source driver 2 has an RGB data receiving circuit 11, an RGB/YCC converting circuit 12, an LCP (Local Color Pallet) encoding circuit 13, a memory 14, an LCP decoding circuit 15, a YCC/RGB converting circuit 16, and an LCD driving circuit 17. Five divided areas corresponding to pixel values are generated in pixel blocks, and each divided area is further halved to generate ten sub-areas in total. At this time, the divided areas are halved in a direction where changes in luminance and color difference are large to generate the sub-areas, so the sub-areas matching the changes in luminance and color difference can be generated.
