PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data communication apparatus capable of reducing consumption of a battery and performing data communication at polling intervals optimum to a user.

SOLUTION: A portable communication terminal 1 includes: an event detecting section 131 for detecting an event caused in its own apparatus; a polling information database 161 storing the polling interval associated with the event; and an electric mail acquiring section 14 for acquiring the polling interval associated with the event detected by the event detecting section 131 from the polling information database 161, and executing polling for a predetermined time between itself and the polling setting section 133 for changing to the polling interval for a predetermined time at the polling interval changed by the polling setting section 133. With this configuration, the portable communication terminal 1 can reduce the consumption of the battery and acquire data at the polling interval optimum to the user.
