<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic packaging machine which detects highly accurately failure of a center seal such as biting of foreign substances and abnormality of the thickness of a packaging material by utilizing high control performance and accuracy of a servo motor rotating and driving a seal roller. <P>SOLUTION: Such operational data as a driving electric current is detected as an operational value for driving the servo motor 37 for rotating and driving the seal roller. While a normal packaging operation is performed, reference operational data Dm id prepared and stored. The operational data of the servo motor 37 when the packaging operation is performed is compared with the reference operational data Dm, and based on the comparing result, the quality of the operational data is determined to be able to determine the quality of the center seal.
