PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch whose size is reduced by constructing a waveguide with a phase change material so as to increase variation of the refractive index, and further the power consumption is reduced by making it consume power only in switching. SOLUTION: The optical switch includes: the waveguide 101 comprising the phase change material; Si waveguides 102; an SiO<SB>2</SB>cladding 103; an Si substrate 104; and wiring 105 to feed current through the waveguide 101 comprising the phase change material.
