PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper and a method of producing the paper in which a range of information to be embedded is prevented from being easily grasped or limited, and a truth/false determination or the like can be made by accurately discriminating a regular article and a copied article. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to paper on which an electronic watermark pattern Xm-1 is plotted visibly, wherein, information embedded in the electronic watermark pattern Xm-1 can not be read from copied paper formed by electronically copying the paper. Presence/absence of the visible electronic watermark pattern in the copied paper is detected and when it can not be detected, it is determined that the paper electronically copied is not proper paper, thereby visually distinguishing whether it is a regular article or not.
