PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiving apparatus and receiving method in which the time until reaching a suitable ratio of combining is shortened. SOLUTION: A diversity type receiving apparatus is provided in which a reception wave of an antenna 110 is attenuated by a first attenuator 10, a reception wave of an antenna 120 is attenuated by a second attenuator 20, the attenuated waves are then composited by a compositing part 30 and demodulated by an OFDM demodulating part 40 to extract a TS packet, wherein an output change evaluation part 90b acquires level information or noise information of a composited output from the OFDM demodulating part 40 and evaluates whether or not a receiving status (composite gain) of the entire apparatus is improved or not by controlling a previous attenuation rate. If the composite gain is improved by controlling the previous attenuation rate as a result, a controlled variable change part 90c increases a controlled variable, and a composite control part 90d uses an amplified controlled variable for the next attenuation rate control.
