PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door latch device which can be easily installed and which enables smooth opening and closing of an installed sliding door without coming off a rail. SOLUTION: The sliding door latch device 1 is provided with an engagement groove 21 with which the upper rail is engaged, and supports a roller 31 which is brought into contact with the upper rail with possible rotation. The sliding door latch device 1 consists of a latch part 2 and a vertically oriented roller supporting part 3. The engagement groove 21 is provided to the top end of the latch part 2, and a slot 22 is provided below the engagement groove 21. The slot 22, which is long from top to bottom, is used for attachment. The roller supporting part 3 pivots a roller 31 by its top end, and is supported in a state where it is attached to a stile so that it can be slid in the up-and-down directions. A roller-energizing elastic body 4 is provided which energizes the roller supporting part 3 in the up-and-down directions, and a slide restraint means 5 is provided which makes the sliding of the roller supporting part 3 impossible in a position where the roller supporting part 3 and the latch part 2 are relatively more separated from each other than an installation state.
