An apparatus for processing a digital image and a control method thereof are provided to reduce a search area where a face is searched among the whole image, thereby improving speed of recognizing a face in an input image. An image of a frame unit is inputted at a set time interval(S710). It is determined whether the first area corresponding to a face area found in a previous frame exists. When the first area does not exist, a face is searched in the whole area of a current frame. When the first area exists, the face is searched in an area except the first area. It is determined whether the second area corresponding to the face area found in the current frame exists. A location of the second area is stored.
