<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct strain of an optical system generated in an image forming apparatus of a scanning electrophotography system. <P>SOLUTION: On a paper on which a calibration pattern 101 is printed beforehand, a pattern 107' for correction is printed by a printing apparatus being an object for calibration. A user reads a shift of the pattern for correction to the calibration pattern at a marker position, and the amount of the shift is inputted into a printing apparatus. The printing apparatus interpolates the amount of the shift inputted, and determines a position where the line of the pattern for correction shifts in the sub-scanning direction by one pixel as a changing point, conversion information making the position and the changing direction as a set is newly formed.
