PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a removal method that permits the removal of a trace amount of glycerin contained in a fatty acid alkyl ester. SOLUTION: The removal method for removing glycerin contained in a fatty acid alkyl ester comprises causing the temperature of the fatty acid alkyl ester to be 100°C or higher in an atmosphere of hydrogen, nitrogen or a mixed gas thereof. Preferably, the treatment is performed in the presence of a metal catalyst comprising at least one metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, palladium and platinum.
