[Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] To facilitate the making of strands from glass fibres the latter are treated with a composition having both adhesive and lubricating properties and containing a hydrolysable organic-silicane, a hydrolysis product thereof, or a polymerised hydrolysis product thereof, the organic radical being attached to the silicon through a direct carbon linkage. Many examples are given, among them being laurylsilicon trichloride, octadecylsilicon trichloride, phenylethyl polysiloxane and methyl polysiloxane. An apparatus for applying the compositions is described. |
