A lance dipping method is provided to dip a lance into the right point of the molten metal by automatically converting a free board zone to collect a test sample. A lance dipping method to collect a molten steel test sample comprises: a step of measuring the current value generated in a lance elevating unit using an inverter to calculate the distance of the dipping depth from a standby position of a top lance of a ladle(10); a step of measuring an encoder translation distance moved with the lance elevating unit; a step of comparing the distance measurement value to the standard value input in a controller with a computer; a step of dipping the lace in an electric furnace corresponding to an error if the error generated, if no, dipping according to the standard value.
