An apparatus for managing the signal loss failure and a method thereof are provided to increase the stability of network system operation. A loss sensor(10) senses whether the signal loss is generated in a received optical signal, and analyzes signal loss occurrence information. A loss notifying unit(20) checks whether the failure is generated in a hardware. If the signal loss failure occurs, the loss notifying unit grasps signal loss failure related information which is recorded in a board register, and reads signal loss failure preventing information according to the grasped information, and then notifies an operator of the internally occurring signal loss.
