PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a displacement type expander improved for reducing a mechanical loss in a bearing. SOLUTION: This rotary expander 300 has a cylinder 42, a piston 46 arranged inside the cylinder 42, a shaft 5 for rotating the piston 46, a bearing member 45 having a cylindrical bearing part 45f supporting the shaft 5, and a suction passage 80 formed inside the bearing member 45 for introducing a working fluid to an operation chamber 55 between the cylinder 42 and the piston 46. The suction passage 80 includes a shaft peripheral part 80b of forming a shape of a cross section orthogonal to the axial direction of the shaft 5 in a C shape of surrounding the bearing part 45f in the peripheral direction.
