PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a read-out time and to relatively easily achieve laterally long imaging and longitudinally long imaging. SOLUTION: In a digital camera, an imaging area 2 is square-shaped. There are defined a laterally long area 3 in which a lower side 2A of the imaging area 2 matches one side 3A of long sides, and a longitudinally long area 4 in which a left side 2B of the imaging area 2 matches one side 4A of the long sides. When performing laterally long imaging, an image sensor including the imaging area 2 is moved so as to form a subject image in the laterally long area 3. Signal charge accumulated in the laterally long area 3 is read out. When performing longitudinally long imaging, the image sensor including the imaging area 2 is moved so as to form a subject image in the longitudinally long area 4.
