PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and interesting illumination device capable, moreover, of suppressing the transparency of a scale part, when a light source is put out. SOLUTION: This illumination device is equipped with a display board 3, having a translucent scale member (scale part) 4 pointed by a pointer 5; the light source 8 arranged on the back of the display board 3; and a half-transmitting colored member 7, arranged on the display board 3 so as to cover the scale member 4, whose color tone is viewed by incident light from the front side of the display board 3, when the light source 8 is put out, for transmitting light from the scale member 4, when the light source 8 is turned on. In the device, the half-transmitting colored member 7, having a covering part 71 for covering a part of the scale member 4 along the rotation direction of the pointer 5, is formed into a ring shape for exposing another part of the scale member 4 along the rotating direction of the pointer 5, and is arranged on the display board 3 with a prescribed interval S for separation from the scale member 4.
