A mobility assistance device providing support for a user on a bed or similar furniture is disclosed. The mobility assistance device may include a support member that can be coupled to a piece of furniture and a support handle that is movable in a substantially vertical direction relative to the support member. The support handle is movable from an operating position to a stowed position. A locking mechanism may secure the support handle in the raised operating position.
