A bearing device for a wheel, in which fretting abrasion occurring with time on contact and fitted surfaces between parts is avoided to enhance reliability of the bearing device. An inner ring (3) is axially fixed to a hub ring (2) by a staked section (2d). An outer joint member integrally has a shaft section axially extending from a shoulder section of the outer joint member. The shaft section is fitted in the hub ring (2) via serrations (2c) with the shoulder section butted against the staked section (2d). The outer joint member is joined, by using a fixing nut making contact with an outer end surface (12) of the hub ring (2), to the hub ring (2) such that the outer joint member and the hub ring can be axially separated from each other and can transmit torque between each other. Laser hardening process is applied to both a surface extending from an outer side surface (4a) of a wheel mounting flange (4) to a pilot section (11) and a surface extending from the outer end surface (12) of the hub ring (2) through the serrations (2c) to the staked section (2d). |
