<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a station information acquisition system and a portable terminal which can accurately and quickly display station information to be truly known. <P>SOLUTION: When a user photographs (sequence 31) a station name plate by a camera of a portable terminal 10 and instructs acquisition of station information, a station name on the photographed station name plate is specified, graphic information on the station name plate is extracted (sequence 32) as station name plate inherent information, and inquiry information to which the specified station name (text information) is added is transmitted (sequence 33) to a station information providing server 20. The station information providing server 20 extracts (sequence 34) station-related information about the station concerned, e.g., time table information, according to the station name included in the inquiry information and returns (sequence S35) the extracted station-related information of the station to the portable terminal 10 which is an inquiry source.
