PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus which enables a user to easily understand the method of releasing a video light mode. SOLUTION: A control microcomputer 15 discriminates whether the video light mode is ON (S1). When it is detected that the video light mode is ON, the control microcomputer 15 switches an LCD panel 12 to solid white display (S2). In the video light mode wherein the LCD panel 12 is switched to the solid white display, the control microcomputer 15 discriminates whether presence of some kind of key operations is detected by a key operation detection circuit 17 (S3). When the presence of the key operation is detected, the control microcomputer 15 releases the video light mode and ends the solid white display of the LCD panel 12 (S4).
