PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for base tread, in which the reinforcing force is enhanced by finely dispersing a syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene having high reinforcing property in butadiene rubber, and the hysteresis is reduced and the elongation at break of rubber is improved by reducing the blending amount of a conventionally used reinforcing agent. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for base tread contains 100 parts by weight of a rubber component which contains butadiene rubber in an amount of 30-70 wt.%, wherein the butadiene rubber contains a syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene having an average primary particle diameter of 20-100 nm in a dispersed state, and 25-45 parts by weight of carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 35-85 m<SP>2</SP>/g.
