PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sugar-derived carbon depending little on fossil resources in its manufacturing and excellent in the capacity of hydrogen adsorption and discharge and its manufacturing method, and a method for storing energy fuel method using it. SOLUTION: The sugar-derived carbon is produced by thermal decomposition of a material containing a sugar in an inactive gas atmosphere or by thermal decomposition of a mixture of a sugar and a porous inorganic material in an inert gas atmosphere and removal of the porous inorganic material from the decomposition product, and its manufacturing method is also disclosed, and the method to storing energy fuel comprises an adsorption process in which a fuel gas containing hydrogen and/or methane is adsorbed on such sugar-derived carbon.
