PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device for a winch capable of safe usage even when it is used for a vessel which transports a flammable risky object, such as a tanker, while driving with a power motor is possible. SOLUTION: In this drive device for the winch 4, which is mounted in the vessel for transporting a flammable risky object, and has a drum 4a for winding a wire or a rope and the power motor 4b for rotating and driving the drum, there are provided an operation portion 8 which operates for driving the winch, a potentiometer 9 in which a predetermined reference voltage is input and which outputs a control signal corresponding to operation amount of the operation portion, an inverter device 11 which supplies a voltage supplied from a power source to the motor by adjusting the voltage based on the control signal output from the potentiometer, and a barrier 14 which cuts off an input of rated voltage to the potentiometer when the voltage input in the potentiometer reaches a predetermined rated voltage.
