A thickness measuring apparatus and method for garbage transfer pipe are provided to measure the thickness of pipeline frequently or periodically, thereby preventing problems due to the thickness reduction of the pipeline. A thickness measuring apparatus for garbage transfer pipe comprises a cylindrical measuring body(202) with a diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the garbage transfer pipe, a thickness sensor(204) formed inside the measuring body to measure the wall thickness of the transfer pipe, a thickness measuring pig(200) with a signal transmitter connected to the thickness sensor, and a computer which receives the signal from the thickness sensor and computes the thickness of the garbage transfer pipe according to section.
