PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface magnet type synchronous machine excellent in flux weakening control performance. SOLUTION: A salient pole portion 10B of soft magnetism is provided at a central portion of a permanent magnet 3 in a peripheral direction to increase a d-axis inductance Ld, thus increasing flux weakening control effect by a -d-axis current Id under a power supply voltage limit.
