PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device reduced in power consumption as a whole by properly changing the liquid crystal application voltage corresponding to a specific gradation, and to provide a method of driving the same. SOLUTION: A map setting circuit 26 included in a display control circuit 200 of the liquid crystal display device has a conversion map from input gradation data to output gradation data, and changes a portion of the content of the conversion map according to a display mode signal (Md) given from the outside of the device. By the change, the specific gradation voltage (gradation voltage V63) equal to the potential of a common electrode is not used during ordinary display and therefore, the viewing angle characteristics during white display can be satisfactorily maintained and the specific gradation voltage equal to the potential of the common voltage is eventually used during a mobile mode and therefore, the power consumption can be suppressed to a lower level, and the power consumption can be eventually reduced as a whole.
