PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display device facilitating weight reduction and image quality enhancement. SOLUTION: A Fresnel lens 23 or a diffusion member as a driven member, is formed of a thin flexible member, and the driven member is moved within a plane in parallel to a screen, with the driven member held in a stretched state by applying a prescribed driving force from a driving unit 60 to an elastic holding unit 30, when constituting this projection type image display 80 of the present invention provided with the elastic holding unit for holding the Fresnel lens or the diffusion member, and the driving unit for displacing the Fresnel lens or the diffusion member, that is the driven member held by the elastic holding unit, within the plane in parallel to the screen, by applying the prescribed driving force to the elastic holding unit.
