An image processing apparatus for compensating the shading phenomenon of a lens unit and a control method thereof are provided to compensate the shading phenomenon easily in a replaceable lens unit. An image processing apparatus for compensating the shading phenomenon comprises a lens unit(10) and a body unit(300). The brightness information corresponding to each region of an image which is formed in image pick-up is stored. An information transfer unit receives the brightness information by being connected to the lens unit. A compensating unit performs the brightness correction uniformly for each region of the image.
