<p>A social alarm system comprises a plurality of sensors (10) installed in a client dwelling to produce sensor data in response to activities of a client within the dwelling. A client unit (20) is installed in the client dwelling to receive the sensor data and raise an alarm call to a remote monitoring apparatus (40) - suitably over a PSTN network (30). Also, the client unit comprises at least one alarm logic unit (210). The alarm logic unit (210) comprises a timer unit (212) and a corresponding timer reset unit (214). The timer unit (210) is configurable to receive an output signal from a corresponding first sensor among the plurality of sensors (10) and to count a predetermined time upon receipt of the output signal. The timer reset unit (214) is configurable to receive at least one output signal from at least one other sensor among the plurality of sensors (10) and is arranged to reset the corresponding timer unit (212). The client unit (20) is arranged to raise an alarm call when the timer unit (212) finishes counting the predetermined time. In this way, the occurrence of false alarms is reduced.</p> |
