A multi-viewing display device (100) includes a display panel (101), such as an LCD panel, for displaying images and a backlight (130) for supplying light to the display panel. Also included is a viewing converting unit (102) for reflecting the light from the backlight and non-reflecting the light from the display panel to control the path of the light in accordance with a desired viewing direction. The viewing converting unit includes a substrate (110); at least one first parallax barrier with a reflective layer (152) to reflect the light on the substrate and a light blocking layer (154) above the reflective layer. The reflective layer preferably has a reflectivity of more than 60% and may include metals such as; Al, AL alloy, Mo, AINd or Cu. The light blocking layer preferably has a reflectivity or less than 15%. An alternative embodiment uses a retro-reflective layer (254) above the reflective layer. |
