A power tool 20, for example for removal of wall paper or barnacles, comprises a housing 5, and a driven member 11 for reciprocal movement relative to the housing. Guide means are provided to support and guide the driven member when reciprocating relative to the housing. The tool also comprises electrically powered drive means, and supply means for supply of electrical power to the drive means. The electrically powered drive means has a solenoid 6 having a core region, and the driven member comprises at least in part a ferrous section, whereby energising of the solenoid causes reciprocal movement of the driven member relative to the housing. Preferably, means are provided to provide a smaller secondary movement of the driven member at at least one end of each stroke, in the form of a two-part drive shaft (28, 29, fig 4). The solenoid may be linear, or curved along its length so that the driven member executes arcuate reciprocal movement. |
