<p>Provided is a liquid crystal Fresnel lens having a high focusing performance. The liquid crystal Fresnel lens comprises a concentrically divided zonal electrode group, a common electrode arranged to confront the zonal electrode group, a liquid crystal layer clamped by the zonal electrode group and the common electrode, a first partial lens region including first plural zonal electrodes in the zonal electrode group and forming a first retardation distribution of the first plural zonal electrodes, and a second partial lens region including second plural zonal electrodes in the zonal electrode group, which is arranged outside of the first plural zonal electrodes, and forming a second retardation distribution of the second plural zonal electrodes. The liquid crystal Fresnel lens is characterized in that the retardation distribution of a Fresnel lens shape is formed in the first and second partial lens regions, and in that the number of the plural second zonal electrodes is smaller than the number of the plural first zonal electrodes.</p> |
