#CMT# #/CMT# Thermoplastic molding material comprises 50-99 wt.% of a polyamide, 0.01-10 wt.% of a crosslinking agent and 0.1-30 wt.% of an impact modifier. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing monofilaments by converting the molding material into granules, drying the granules at 80[deg] C for at least 6 weeks until the moisture content is 0.04% or less, melting the granules in a single-screw extruder and spinning the melt; (2) monofilaments produced as above. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Monofilaments made from the molding material are useful for making ropes, cables and cords, especially strimmer cords, as well as filter fabrics, paper machine covers, conveyor belts or rubber reinforcements. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The crosslinking agent increases the tensile strength of monofilaments made from the molding material. #CMT#POLYMERS : #/CMT# Preferred Material: The polyamide is nylon 6. The crosslinking agent is a bifunctional epoxy resin based on bisphenol A, a blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate based on isophorone diisocyanate, a blocked alicyclic polyisocyanate or carbonylbiscaprolactam and is pressent in an amount of 0.3-0.8 wt.%. The impact modifier is a copolymer of at least two of ethylene, propylene, propylene, butadiene, isobutene, isoprene, chloroprene, vinyl acetate, styrene, acrylonitrile and (meth)acrylate esters and is present in an amount of 3-8 wt.%. These components and optionally conventional additives are mixed at 220-360[deg] C #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Monofilaments made from a dry blend of nylon 6 (93.49%), Araldite(RTM) GY 764 (0.51%) and Exxelor(RTM) VA 1801 (6%), with a diameter of 1.6 mm, had a tensile strength of 26.5 cN/dtex, compared with 18.5 cN/dtex in the absence of Araldite(RTM) GY 764. |
