Solenoid assembly with a slotted stator

A solenoid assembly or a method of assembling such a solenoid or a fuel injector containing such a solenoid assembly comprises a core member 40 with a plurality of slots 42 extending outwardly from a central passageway 47. The core member 40 is held together in a unitary manner by material 44 at the outer periphery of the core member 40. The core member 40 is located within a cavity of a housing member. The core member 40 may be fitted within the cavity of the housing by radially compressing it before inserting it in to the cavity and then radially expanding it such that it snugly fits adjacent to the inners surface of the said cavity. This method of assembly allows for some flexibility in the machining tolerances required in the manufacture of the core member and its housing.
