Production of hot strip from transition-free ferritic steel comprises casting the melt in a horizontal strip casting unit without bending to produce a 6 - 20mm semi-finished strip. This is then rolled with a degree of deformation of at least 50%. An independent claim is included for hot strip produced from transition-free ferritic steel with the composition (wt%): carbon less than 1.5; chromium less than 30; aluminum more than 2; manganese less than 30 and silicon less than 5, the remainder being iron.
