The wiper has contact plates (7, 8), where a voltage signal for a parking position is produced by the contact plate (7) and another voltage signal (S8) for an intermediate and/or service position is produced by the contact plate (8). The latter signal differs from the former signal. An electric circuit for a service position of a wiper arm is coupled to a transition switching position of an ignition lock. The electric circuit is activated in the transition switching position by a preset windscreen wiper function i.e. tip wiping function, that is selectable on a steering column switch. An independent claim is also included for a method for swiveling a wiper arm of a windscreen wiper.
