An automobile has a GPS-based security system that alerts the driver to open doors, windows or hatches prior to driving into an automatic car wash (5). The vehicle incorporates an electro-magnetic sensor coupled to a computer-based data processing system that identifies the vehicle position with respect to the washing system. The system triggers the necessary hatch closures prior to entering the vehicle wash system.
