Systems and method are described for managing external content for insertion into a web interface. One method includes storing identifiers of a plurality of items of external content, such as advertisements, in a database. When a request is received for external content for insertion into a web interface, a minimum rating is determined for content that is permitted to be inserted into the web interface. A rating is obtained for at least one item of external content in the database and the rating is compared to the minimum rating for the web interface. If the rating is lower than the determined minimum rating, the external content is blocked. If the rating is higher than the determined minimum rating, the external content is forwarded for insertion into the web interface. A rating system is also described which enables a community of users to generate a rating for items, including items of external content. |
