[Also in Group XXV] A sliding door on a movable container such as a skip or vehicle is slid in a plane substantially parallel to the direction of movement of the container by an electromagnet permitted limited movement against suitable biasing means into contact with the the door so that relative movement between the container and the magnet opens the door. A vertically sliding door 22 on the skip 2 shown in Fig. 1 is opened as the skip completes its upward movement in its guides by energization of a magnet 42 which is moved along guides 40 against springs 44 into contact with the door which is thus held back during the final portion of the movement of the skip. Material is thus discharged from the skip through a flap 14 opened by a ram 20 into a hopper 10. The magnet 42 and the ram 20 are controlled by switches and valves operated by a roller 30 depressed against a biasing spring 34 by a cam surface 28 on the skip. Biasing weights 26 are connected by cables 24 to counterbalance the door. In an alternative construction the magnet 42 is carried by a sliding door which replaces the flap 14 and is operated by a ram. When the magnet 42 is energized the sliding door on the hopper 10 and the sliding door on the skip are connected for conjoint movement. In this embodiment the door 22 may move upwardly relatively. to the skip to open so that a counterbalance is unnecessary. The ram opening the door on the hopper 10 may be controlled by a cam surface on the skip while energization of the magnet 42 is controlled by a cam carried on the door of the hopper. |
