A keratoprosthesis having of a central optical part 1 tightly connected to a peripheral haptic 2 part both made of hydrophobic polymers characterized by
- smooth surfaces of the optical part 1 where the surface oriented toward the eyelid has been rendered hydrophilic, whereas, the chemical nature of the surface oriented to the anterior chamber of the eye is such that it does not support fibrin adherence and membrane formation and
- the chemical nature of the textured haptic part 2 is configured to promote the adherence of cells and eventually the vascular ingrowth.
