The cleaning unit for a needle (103), for a sample injection system, applies a physical or chemical treatment on at least a part of the needle. The treatment is at least one of heat, radiation, light or chemicals to modify or remove clinging sample molecules. Heat is applied by a heating coil (113). The radiation can be by electron beam, microwaves, X-rays or alpha rays.
