A method and an apparatus for estimating a channel in a wireless communication system are provided to correct the distortion of a size and a phase by estimating the channel by a mid-amble and performing the channel equalization when the predetermined symbol passes through the cannel. An initial channel estimating value is generated by using the preamble extracted from a receiving signal(S102). Whether a mid-amble is between data symbols continuously in a preamble is determined(S104). If the mid-amble exists, a first channel estimating value is obtained by using the mid-amble(S105). A second channel estimating value is obtained by using the first channel estimating value and the initial channel estimating value(S106). The distortion is corrected by performing the channel equalization by the second channel estimating value(S107).
