The device has a spherical shaped male part (7) and a cup shaped female part (8) that are fixed on an orthogonal rigid tubular element i.e. gear lever (1), and on another orthogonal rigid tubular element i.e. rigid control rod, respectively. The female part has a tubular section (8a) prolonged by upper arms (11) surrounding the male part along a spherical receptacle. The arms are provided at ends of stoppers (13) which cooperate with an external profile of the male part to limit the relative clearance of the parts. The stoppers are in support against lateral edges (14a) of a material cut (14). An independent claim is also included for an external control device for a gearbox, comprising a gear lever articulated with respect to a fixed part of a vehicle.
