A method for evaluating fatigue resistance of welded joints involves subjecting joint samples to an alternating strain cyclic fatigue test up to breakage; measuring the fault size in the breakage plane by fractography; determining a fault dimension interval for which the probability of measuring a fault is less than a level t of determined probability; and determining from this interval the lowest strain causing breakage with a degree of probability t. A method for evaluating the fatigue resistance of welded joints, formed by melting an alloy by a specific welding technique, involves: (A) forming a statistically significant number (N) of samples of the welded joint; (B) subjecting each sample to an alternating strain (sigma ) cyclic fatigue test up to breakage; (C) measuring the size of the relevant fault in the breakage plane by fractography; (D) determining a fault dimension interval for which the probability of measuring a fault by fractography during the interval is less than a level t of determined probability; and (E) determining from this interval the lowest strain (sigma min) causing breakage of the sample with a degree of probability t. |
